How to check what ChatGPT says about your company
July 16, 2026 · 5 min read
A buyer asked ChatGPT who does what you do before they ever contacted you. You don't know what it told them. Here's how to check in five minutes, no tools or subscriptions needed.
Open ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google Gemini in separate tabs. Ask each the question a real buyer would actually type: not "company X", but "who makes [your product] in Croatia" or "recommend a supplier for [your service]". Write down the answer, and the date — these tools give a different answer from one day to the next, so a single check is only a snapshot.
What to look for
Does the AI mention you at all. If not, this isn't a ranking problem — you're not visible in any of the sources the AI reads. If it does mention you, check whether the description is accurate: your field, location, what sets you apart. AI models build an answer from several sources at once, so if your website is the only source of information about you, the model will hesitate to recommend you with full confidence.
Why the answer changes
AI doesn't search the live web for every question — a large share of any answer comes from what the model learned during training, not a real-time search. When it does search, sources updated within the last few months have an edge, and so do sources that appear in more than one place at once: your site, but also directories, chamber-of-commerce listings, trade press, reviews.
One check tells you nothing. Repeating the same question every month shows a direction — are you becoming more visible, or less.
If AI doesn't mention you at all, that's fixable — not through one trick on your website, but by making sure your company is described consistently in the places AI checks for confirmation. We do this for clients as part of the free check.
